19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after March of that year.

The win also signifies he has secured 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
